Belemnit nedir? ———————————-
Belemnitler, günümüzde kalamara benzeyen, soyu tükenmiş bir kafadan bacaklı deniz canlısıdır. Nautiloidler ve ammonitlerin aksine çok sağlam iç iskeletleri vardı. Düz, mermiye benzeyen gövdeleri ve iri gözleriyle dikkat çekerlerdi. Bir tür jet itici kullanarak hızla yüzüyorlardı. Düşmanlarına karşı ahtapota benzer şekilde siyah mürekkep bulutları püskürttükleri tahmin ediliyor.
Belemnitler, Dünya tarihinin Jura ve Kretase olarak bilinen dönemlerinde yaşadılar. Takriben 135 milyon yıl hayat sürdüler. Jura Dönemi yaklaşık 201 milyon yıl önce başladı ve Kretase yaklaşık 66 milyon yıl önce sona erdi. Kretase Dönemi’nin sonunda, aşağı yukarı dinozorların ortadan kaybolmasıyla eş zamanlı olarak belemnitlerin nesli yok oldu. Günümüzde fosil olarak hayvanın kalıntılarının daha sonra kayaya katılaşan tortuya gömülmesiyle oluşurlar. Belemnitler hakkında kuvvetli akademik literatür mevcuttur.

What’s belemnites ——————————-
Belemnites are an extinct group of cephalopod that probably looked like a squid. Unlike nautiloids and ammonites, belemnites had a very solid internal skeleton called a rostrum. Many people will be familiar with belemnite rostra, they are straight, and look rather like bullets.
Apart from their shells, palaeontologists have also found some belemnite fossils that show their internal structure and soft parts. These fossils tell us a great deal about the way these animals lived. Belemnites had large eyes, and swam quickly using a form of jet propulsion. Like the octopus they could probably squirt clouds of black ink at their enemies to avoid attack.
Belemnites lived during the periods of Earth history known as the Jurassic and Cretaceous; together, these represent a time interval of about 135 million years. The Jurassic Period began about 201 million years ago, and the Cretaceous ended about 66 million years ago. The belemnites became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous Period, at roughly the same time as the dinosaurs disappeared. However, we know a lot about them because they are commonly found as fossils, formed when the remains of traces of the animal became buried in sediment that later solidified into rock.
